Chasing the Eclipse – 8 weeks to MCM

Chasing the Eclipse – 8 weeks to MCM

I am normally a very cheerful person, but sometimes life bogs me down and my marathon goal seems so far stretched that I wonder whatever I am doing chasing it (for the THIRD time!).  That’s when unexpected week comes up and I am reminded that it’s not one off shot runs that make a difference, but consistency over time.

Chasing the Eclipse

Monday – Chasing the Eclipse
Atlanta was just 2 hrs away from total solar eclipse and even though I’m a science nerd, I was torn between if it was a hype or if it would really be as awesome as everyone said it would be. Would it be worth driving 2-3 hours, in potential crazy traffic for about 2 minutes of totality? An astronomy buff neighbor was putting together things to see totality with telescopes and filters and etc. At the last minute, I decided to make a go of it and packed up the kids and snacks and made the drive to the ISHA Ashram in nearby Tennessee (a 2.5hr drive) with a large group of neighbors. The 1min 40 seconds of totality was worth it and more!

Tuesday – Autopilot Run
I was very groggy from the eclipse chasing, and this lunchtime treadmill run was completely on Autopilot thanks to the new Marvel’s DEFENDERS on Netflix!

Wednesday – Nailed the 8 x 800s!
2 weeks ago, these 8 x 800s were the most interrupted of runs and I was never able to complete it. So I gave it another go and I nailed it! They were tough, but doable at the 800 pace I picked. And it says wonders if I didn’t need music for the run, but needed music to get through the cooldown section.

Thursday – Swim that still takes me forever

Friday – 1:20 run with 5k strides
The MP that I have in my mind still seems far away, but a good run like this atleast gives me confidence that things are moving in the right direction. Cooler temps and a peaceful solo run, with just enough 5k strides to get me pumping.

Saturday – Long Run with my MARC group
I hadn’t run with the group since April but when Olga said she’d run my distance at any pace I wanted and at a 5:00am start, I jumped at it. It was my longest run by distance and time and over some rolling hills. In the past, I’ve hated the route because I’ve never been able to do the hills, but cooler temps and stronger legs made this a surprisingly good run!I didn’t look at the Garmin for pace even once, ran completely by feel and ended up with 15.x miles at a pace of 13:03; which is only :30/mile away from my goal marathon pace. 8 weeks to get there!

Sunday – Kids Triathlon and a new post altogether!

All in all, a much needed strong week with some solid running along with viewing one of the most amazing things I’ve witnessed. Human body and nature/science is wonderful!

Did you get to see the eclipse in partial or full?
What did you think of it?
