Schedule of Races for the rest of 2014

Schedule of Races for the rest of 2014

2 weeks ago, I did not have a fall race on my schedule. Now, I have a heavy schedule of races for the rest of 2014. And in spite of some life changes including my littlest minion starting Kindergarden, I have goals for every one of these races.  I’ll most probably be carried away and add races to this tweak this slightly, but here is my race schedule as it stands for the rest of the year. July 4th: Peachtree…

Tribute to Roger Bannister’s Sub-4 Mile

Tribute to Roger Bannister’s Sub-4 Mile

Last week, I came across a post from Dan @ Running Dan, encouraging everyone to run their fastest mile on May 6th as a tribute to Roger Bannister’s Sub-4 Mile. And so I did. Although the sub-4 mile is known even to non-runners, here is a short background. On May 6th, 1954, Roger Bannister ran a mile race in three minutes 59.4 seconds. The first person recorded to have run a sub-4 minute mile. Although the record stood only for 46…

Running the Ragnar Relay Napa Valley

Running the Ragnar Relay Napa Valley

Running a Ragnar Relay has been on my bucket list of races and when Dimity and Sarah (SBS), the awesome ladies at Another Mother Runner announced their Ragnar Napa contest, I didn’t want to miss a chance running the Ragnar Relay Napa Valley! I don’t usually send in my entries, mainly because I have very little creative imagination and very little time. But this time I had lots of time and with some help from my minions, I sent in my entry. And today –…

Mother’s Day Picks for the Mother Runner

Mother’s Day Picks for the Mother Runner

As a runner (and sometimes wannabe triathlete), I always hope for gifts that are running related. After all, our lives as a mother and runner is so intertwined. Why not get something that I’m going to use, and that will put a smile on my face every time I use it? And although my husband refuses to buy me anything more running related, my kids know that I appreciate my running gear more than jewelry and that I value a…

Adventures in Donut Making

Adventures in Donut Making

I tasted my first donut at the age of 26 when I came to this country. There was a Krispy Kreme near my grad school and I went there with my classmates. I remember asking what type I should get for my first donut and got a glazed donut. I remember almost gagging on it with the sweetness of the topping. I since tried a bunch of varieties in Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts and settled on the curler and…

To Dopey or Not to Dopey Challenge, That is the Question

To Dopey or Not to Dopey Challenge, That is the Question

Just as I was thinking of what to do next, my running buddies started to talk about the Dopey Challenge! The runDisney website says “Run 48.6 miles of fun in the Dopey Challenge!” I am not exactly sure about the “fun” in running close to 50 miles!! DisneyWorld races start at an insane time in the morning so that is 4 days of 2am wakeup calls. And there will be no real “racing” either of the 4 days. All…

Cyclists Hit at New Orleans

Cyclists Hit at New Orleans

A group of us made the trip to New Orleans in 2012 to run the Rock ‘N Roll Marathon. While passing the various bodies of water, the triathletes amongst us remarked on the incredible choppiness (and perhaps a bit murkiness) of the water. That was my first introduction to a triathlon event in New Orleans. This past week, New Orleans 70.3 Ironman Triathlon was in the thoughts of a lot of triathletes. Not just the ones with friends and family racing….
