The Run to Erase Self-Doubts

The Run to Erase Self-Doubts

After 3 bad long runs (Thanksgiving Half debacle, 12.5 miles on Columns Dr when my hamstrings and hipflexors protested, 12 miles at Buckhead when the hills beat me up mentally), I was long due for a good one. Granted today’s course wasn’t as hilly as last week and it was marvelous to finish up with almost 2 miles of downhill; the run was still wonderful. A run that assures me that I am not crazy to sign up for another marathon 🙂…

Kale and Chickpeas Pasta – Thank you Pinterest

Kale and Chickpeas Pasta – Thank you Pinterest

Ever since I became addicted discovered Pinterest, I’ve been pinning a.k.a bookmarking like crazy. I discovered this Whole Wheat Pasta with Chickpeas(!), Kale(…gulp…) and Crushed Red Peppers. I wasn’t sure if this combination of Italian Pasta with Mediterranean Chickpeas would work. You know what – just like the Romans and Mesopotamians had a good trade going on, this dish has something good going on! I didn’t read the recipe right and thought it said red peppers (when it actually said…

Stir Fry – When Friends Inspire

Stir Fry – When Friends Inspire

I took this picture after I was done with more than half the veggies. It was that good! *Confession here* – I’ve never made a stir fry before. So I turned to Becca a.k.a CrafySnatch (my sister in another life) for a stir fry recipe. Viola … a very quick…

It’s only a Hill. Get over it!

It’s only a Hill. Get over it!

A brutal run at Buckhead that has left me wondering if I’m a “flat road” runner. The hills were relentless and steep. No amount of repeating “hills make you stronger” made things any easier for me. By the end, with another mile to go, I decided to call it a run. We’d passed by my car 3 times by then and it was just easier to quit. Not my greatest moment because apart from hamstring soreness from hills, I was physcially…

Making an Effort to take back Control

Making an Effort to take back Control

For the first time in over 6 years, I met with a nutritionist. One who was recommended by a lot of Get Fit athletes. Why did I decide to get an expensive consult when my food/weight isn’t really that out of control? That was the key. I didn’t want to be just getting alongI knew there was something amiss, but with things overwhelming me so much lately I hadn’t been able to make any positive changes from my knowledge. I needed…

An Ode to my Running Mentors

An Ode to my Running Mentors

From the December issue of Runner’s World When I joined Get Fit Atlanta the target fall race was Savannah, an entire month after Chicago. Dick and Felecia (and Lorraine from Run Wifey Run) were doing Chicago as well and I soon found myself running 2-4 extra miles in the early morning with them before joining the rest of the group. Dick and Felecia have been running buddies for a long time and speedier people. I remember being super nervous and a…
