It’s only a Hill. Get over it!

It’s only a Hill. Get over it!

A brutal run at Buckhead that has left me wondering if I’m a “flat road” runner. The hills were relentless and steep. No amount of repeating “hills make you stronger” made things any easier for me. By the end, with another mile to go, I decided to call it a run. We’d passed by my car 3 times by then and it was just easier to quit. Not my greatest moment because apart from hamstring soreness from hills, I was physcially…

Making an Effort to take back Control

Making an Effort to take back Control

For the first time in over 6 years, I met with a nutritionist. One who was recommended by a lot of Get Fit athletes. Why did I decide to get an expensive consult when my food/weight isn’t really that out of control? That was the key. I didn’t want to be just getting alongI knew there was something amiss, but with things overwhelming me so much lately I hadn’t been able to make any positive changes from my knowledge. I needed…

An Ode to my Running Mentors

An Ode to my Running Mentors

From the December issue of Runner’s World When I joined Get Fit Atlanta the target fall race was Savannah, an entire month after Chicago. Dick and Felecia (and Lorraine from Run Wifey Run) were doing Chicago as well and I soon found myself running 2-4 extra miles in the early morning with them before joining the rest of the group. Dick and Felecia have been running buddies for a long time and speedier people. I remember being super nervous and a…

Respect the Distance

Respect the Distance

It has taken me a good 2 days to come to peace with my performance in the Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon. To understand that this needed to happen, so I can learn to deal with it.To understand my limitations and my strengths. To understand that everything can go wrong without warning. And to learn a very important lesson – Respect the Distance (to quote John Bingham). I had decided to treat this race as a training run, yet I did not do any…

Thanksgiving Half Marathon 2011

Thanksgiving Half Marathon 2011

I like my food guilt-free and 13.1 miles is the best way to earn that food! A week before the race I had a trail run disaster and sprained my ankle. I was given clearance to run on thanksgiving, but not the practice runs. I was a little wary of going in with only one 12 mile run (almost a month ago), but I’ve done 13+ miles about 10 times in the past 6 months. And so it should…

The Tale of the Trail

The Tale of the Trail

Went out for my first proper trail run with the husband on this windy, but nice fall day. It was great for the first 0.5miles, until I went down! I must’ve stepped on slick leaves and lost my footing.  And now have a badly swollen ankle. Not sure if icing is going to heal it for Saturday’s 9 miles. I’m just hoping that it gets better by next Thursday, in time for my Thanksgiving Half Marathon. Beautiful day at Sibley…
