As a newbie triathlete going in for her first long distance event last year at Ironman 70.3 Augusta, purchasing the proper tri kit was very very important. And as a .. umm… well endowed (aka fat in all the awkward place) athlete, finding a pair of shorts that was long enough, that did not ride up on the legs, that did not show the plumber’s crack, that did not give me sausage legs, that did not chafe was a tall order.

Mike, who was coaching me last year, introduced me to Fusion Sports. So I got a pair of safe black shorts to try out. I used that one pair all of last year from Feb-September. And I still love and use them (I got in 2 more pairs to rotate through). Just like he didn’t steer me wrong with coaching, his recommendation of the Fusion shorts was spot on.

Chamois –  The chamois is just perfect for me. I use it to ride all distances; 60 has been my max distance, but as a slooooow rider, I’ve trusted the chamois for upto 5 hours on the bike.

The legs – Long enough to not ride up, gentle compression to hold everything together. In fact, there’s a joke amongst Atlanta area triathlete that these shorts are so comfortable that a certain well-loved triathlete and coach even runs his “run only” sessions in the tri shorts.

Pockets – Did I mention that these shorts have pockets?? Not the teeny pocket in the back to hold one little key. These have  pockets on the side of the shorts that can hold gels or phones or salty balls (even though that gives it an weird bulge)

I love the Fusion Top just as much (separate post on review coming up soon). Together, they were the most comfortable combination for Ironman 70.3 Augusta for me.

This is the newer Fusion PWR Tights with band across the bottom and still pockets.

You can see the pockets better in this shot with the older style shorts.
