The Importance of Rest

The Importance of Rest

Put simply – Rest is important for the human body to heal and strengthen itself. So is pacing yourself and not push too much even though your body is willing to go there.

Both of the above is very important to someone who was a couch potato an year ago, someone who’s pace is still 13:00-14:00.

And not heeding to it – body crashes.

After 2 weeks of intense tempo, speedwork, a 13mile training run in which I was faster 7 minutes than my “race pace”, … my body just crashed. I had a good 10mile run with a pace of 12:47 – unheard of!, but the cold, the wind and my body needing rest – not a good combination.

So this week has been very s . l . o . w . I’ve forced myself not to do anything until I recover from my tonsillitis.
