Turning Hardcore

Turning Hardcore

Christmas Day – I ran a short 2miles while it was snowing. The Resolution Run 5k on Jan 1 – I  ran in pouring rain. This past weekend – I ran 13miles! 13 miles! My longest training run ever at a pace of 13:15 and half of it in slush, mud and melting ice! Is that not hardcore for a former couch potato?

2010 Bests and Worst races. What made them so great or not so great?

2010 Bests and Worst races. What made them so great or not so great?

I saw this at Kitzzy’s Blog and loved it! Wanted to do the same (apologies in advance if I’m not supposed to borrow the format – I’m relatively new to non-personal blogging) Biggest Achievement: ING Georgia Half Marathon – The first. My perseverance in training for it amazed me and made me realize that I could do things that I had thought impossible. Biggest Achievement #2: Callaway Gardens Sprint Triathlon – I had to break rules and have a 2nd biggest achievement. Just…

Resolution Run 5k – 2011

Resolution Run 5k – 2011

What better than to start off the New Year with a race in pouring rain? Last year, this was my first race after I started seriously training, and I wasn’t going to let it go this year. Not to mention the $30 race fees and the cute race Long sleeve tech Tshirt ATC Track Club gives out (although I’ve always struggled with their sizing) 2011 Time: 37min 08sec (Plenty of walk breaks in between, pouring rain and squishy shoes) 2010…

My 1st Running Anniversary

My 1st Running Anniversary

Today is the first anniversary of my running journey. Last Christmas Eve, terrified of having signed up for the ING Georgia Half, I laced up and stepped utside my home. I walked/jogged 3 miles and came back  in tears. I hated every minute of it, and I hated myself for doing that to myself. I kept at it though, initially to prove a point to Hubby. And here I am a year later, with 3 half-marathons + a sprint triathlon,…

Atlanta Thanksgiving Half Marathon – Elevation and Map

Atlanta Thanksgiving Half Marathon – Elevation and Map

The hills kept coming and coming and coming, in the second half of the course. I felt the hills on the second half. This may be one of the races where I bank time in the first half to allow for a 30-60 seconds fade in the second half. The water stops were 2 miles apart, a tad too far in my liking especially in the second half of the race. Next time, I may carry my own water. Getting…

Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon – Race Report

Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon – Race Report

It was an unusually wonderful start to the day. Temperature in 50s at the end of November! Unheard of! I had on cute new running gear. What more could I ask for 🙂   I had slight gear malfunction until about 5 miles. It got hot/humid pretty fast, but because of my armband music, I couldn’t remove my long T inspite of wrestling with it for a long time. My iPhone went into music shuffle mode and that threw me…

13.1 Atlanta Half Marathon – Course and Elevation

13.1 Atlanta Half Marathon – Course and Elevation

Course starts and end at Oglethorpe University (great finish party). The first 2-3 miles (for my speed) were in the dark. The little speed bumps on dark roads were tripping obstacles. Small but fun race with no corrals.  The running in the dark in the beginning may have partly contributed to me going out a tad too quickly. The last bit of 2 miles or so on Peachtree St felt like huge long hills. UPHILL FINISH!! Seriously, who does that…
