Training Recap: Cupcakes and Long Runs

Training Recap: Cupcakes and Long Runs

The past three weeks, I worked on overcoming my funk (for the lack of a better word) and establishing a routine. This week was about sticking to it and as a reward, I got to enjoy a long run outside.

Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up.

Monday – Athlete’s Yoga on my rest day. This was really needed. I had started to feel a bit creaky and squeaky. And this helped start the regeneration process (“Regeneration” – see what I did there Whovians 😉 ).

Tuesday – 45min Trainer Ride + 1250yds/45min swim.
It was finally an ACTUAL snow day but I got lucky and sneaked in a swim before the snow fell. Of course, there was the whole hoopla about the schools only delaying and then closing and the scary (or not so scary) roads and all.

Snow day trainer ride means I get a photographer!

Wednesday – Time for some speed on the treadmill with 3 x mile repeats.
My first speedwork of the session! And I could feel my legs ready to fly. But it was the 40minutes in zone2 after the speedwork that was brutal. It was boring and slow and I could feel my hip flexors locking up. Some more stretching with p90x stretch afterwards.

Thursday – 60min Trainer Ride

Friday – 45min base run + 45min swim
I wasn’t that lucky with the pool swim on Thursday with the snow and had to move it to Friday instead. But still both run and swim was done on friday.

Saturday – My favorite day of the whole week!
It was predicted to be sunny, even though windy. And I took advantage and asked to switch run & bike around. So I enjoyed a glorious 2 hour run at my favorite place. And got to see a ton of people running on the beautiful sunny morning. A long run is great for the soul.
Julie from RunWalkRepeat and friends were running in the morning and I tagged along for the start line photo, even though they soon left my Zone2 run in the dust.

Motivation for me to show up at the scheduled time instead of procrastinating.

Great day to run for 2 hours! So smooth!

Sunday – 1hr 15min Trainer Ride + 1000yds swim
Snow week meant that I couldn’t go down to get a new saddle. So I had to continue with this one with lot of ouches and groans. I have a feeling this ride duration is going to increase soon after Publix Half Marathon on March 22nd, so I will enjoy the short “long” ride as long as I have it!
I squeezed in a bonus swim when I had 1 hr of “free time” before I had to pick up the minions. Since I had to shower anyway, why not swim and then shower. Unexpectedly, Mr. FauxTriathlete came by and videotaped me swimming. I got some feedback over the swim and what I can do to improve it.

Honorable Mention

Not fitness related, but this is a beauty! The minions made cupcakes all by themselves on a snow day. It was a box mix, but I gave them the box and eggs and oil and the pan. They mixed it and poured it in all by themselves and I only had to put it in the over (and not mind the mess they’d made). I worked with them to make lemon cream cheese frosting and it was absolutely delicious.

  1. Beat cream cheese and butter until fluffy.
  2. Add the lemon juice, lemon extract and vanilla extra and beat.

  4. Add in food coloring and beat. (follow the instructions in your coloring package)
  5. Pour into icing bag and frost!
Faux Runner

Starting next week,  I am going to take a leaf out of Jesica from rUnLadyLike and also document my eating patterns along with my training. This won’t be boring and turn into eating log, but more of a dinner/lunch thing and I am hoping that it inspires me to try one new recipe every week. It would also help keep me straight so I don’t have to tell everyone that I ate half a sleeve of girl scout cookies in one sitting.

How was your week in training? Can you inspire me with a simple vegetarian recipe that I can try for next week?
