Training Recap: What I learnt from Week 1 of HR Training

Training Recap: What I learnt from Week 1 of HR Training

This week’s training recap is a little different. Instead of the usual day-by-day byplay, I’m going to focus on what I learnt from it all. Mainly because my entire week was dedicated to runs. 7 days, 5 runs – a 5k race, 1 recovery run, 2 base building runs and 1 ‘long’ run. This was also week 1 of training with a run focus (even though it is technically week 3 of the 28 week Dopey training), with CrossFit, Swim,…

What do I need for my First Triathlon

So you want to Tri? You are a brand new wannabe triathlete and you don’t know where to start or how to sift through the overwhelming information. This post “What do I need for my First Triathlon” is meant to help a newbie who is looking to do their first triathlon (or an only triathlon) and does not want to spend anything more than they really have to. When I did my first triathlon in 2011, I was a newbie…

Training Recap – Doing things that are Fun!

Training Recap – Doing things that are Fun!

Every once in a while, you find yourself in the middle of things and they make you go “Huh? Why exactly am I doing this?” and then you realize that you do it because you are enjoying it, even though it might not serve a bigger purpose. This week’s training recap highlights that for me. Monday Started off the week with a PR – a back squat 1 rep PR of 75lbs (!!!). Wowzers! I know it was only 1…

Winter Break Training Recap: Dec 21 – Jan 4

Winter Break Training Recap: Dec 21 – Jan 4

I don’t usually write a weekly training plan or recap (although I think it is a great idea to be accountable in public), but these past week of winter holidays has been so blissful that I’m compelled to record and brag about it. And perhaps continue this trend so you can get a glimpse into what workouts with a person who wants to do everything and probably has no clear goal looks like. I’m sure there are quite a few…

Consistency – Back to Basics Training

Consistency – Back to Basics Training

It is not yet January , the time for goals and resolutions. But I have my goal picked out for this season and I’m going to treat the next 5 months as a “mini-year” with goals, resolutions and check points! I have a SMART goal (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-based) –  for a marathon that I will refer to as the “Mystery Marathon”. And the goal in this marathon is to complete within the official time limit. But a goal…

Tomorrow, March 21

Tomorrow, March 21

… will be my first half marathon.I’m super excited and super nervous. In spite of being sick for the past 3-4 weeks and not having too many miles after my big 10mile run on Feb 21st, I have trained hard for this. Starting from not being able to run half a mile and wimping out at hills to being able to run for over 2 hours. Ideally, I would like to finish around 2:45. But realistically, I will be happy…

My First Run

My First Run

Today, I ran on the roads outside my house. Ran for 3 miles.  The weather was just perfect. The first 10-15 minutes was uncomfortable. The middle 10-15 was tolerable. The last 20 minutes definitely tried to kill me and I had to walk up almost every mountain I encountered. I wanted to give it up and call Guru to pick me up instead, but the baby was sleeping and I didn’t want him to have to bring her out. And so I…
