Respect the Distance

Respect the Distance

It has taken me a good 2 days to come to peace with my performance in the Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon. To understand that this needed to happen, so I can learn to deal with it.To understand my limitations and my strengths. To understand that everything can go wrong without warning. And to learn a very important lesson – Respect the Distance (to quote John Bingham). I had decided to treat this race as a training run, yet I did not do any…

Thanksgiving Half Marathon 2011

Thanksgiving Half Marathon 2011

I like my food guilt-free and 13.1 miles is the best way to earn that food! A week before the race I had a trail run disaster and sprained my ankle. I was given clearance to run on thanksgiving, but not the practice runs. I was a little wary of going in with only one 12 mile run (almost a month ago), but I’ve done 13+ miles about 10 times in the past 6 months. And so it should…

The Tale of the Trail

A Slightly Alarming Upward Spiral

A Slightly Alarming Upward Spiral

Ever since Chicago 6 weeks ago, I seemed to have gained eight pounds. Completely negating the 4 pounds I’d lost during taper. Once I started enjoying running, I had stopped looking at the numbers on the scale (or clothes sizes). I appreciated both as side effects of something I liked doing. But every extra pound counts in running. Every extra pound is extra impact on my joints, every extra pound slows my already slow pace even more. I’m not really…

What is Love?

What is Love?

Love is Signing up for your first marathon in the same year. Training for your first marathons side by side (kind of – Saturday and Sunday). Swapping parenting days on the weekend so both can get their runs in. Not killing each other after exhaustingly long training runs. Buying bags of ice for each other to soak in cold chilly recovery baths.  Putting up with one partner talk only about the Marathon, and the other partner talk nothing about the…

Rock n Roll Savannah Marathon

Rock n Roll Savannah Marathon

(He’s going to be totally mad at me for posting his pictures in public domain, but I’m just so proud of him!)   We drove down from Atlanta, and went straight to packet pickup. The traffic into the expo (which was on an island with just ONE road) was a mess! Good thing we left Atlanta at 9am and not at 12noon as we had originally planned!     Race Day! I wrote his name on the Shirt and outfitted…
