Chasing the Eclipse – 8 weeks to MCM

Chasing the Eclipse – 8 weeks to MCM

I am normally a very cheerful person, but sometimes life bogs me down and my marathon goal seems so far stretched that I wonder whatever I am doing chasing it (for the THIRD time!).  That’s when unexpected week comes up and I am reminded that it’s not one off shot runs that make a difference, but consistency over time. Monday – Chasing the Eclipse Atlanta was just 2 hrs away from total solar eclipse and even though I’m a science nerd, I was torn…

The Best Laid Plans – 10 Weeks to MCM

The Best Laid Plans – 10 Weeks to MCM

“The best laid plans of mice and men oft go awry.” I cannot describe this week in any better words than the poet Robert Burns. It was a very unusual “just fit it in somehow” kind of week for me. Monday – Rest Day There’s something disconcerting about starting a week with a rest day, but I’ll gladly take it with some active recovery stretching and yoga. Tuesday – Lunchtime Treadmill Run for 1hr Just the usual treadmill easy run Wednesday…

Learning to run at Marathon Pace – 11 Weeks to MCM

Learning to run at Marathon Pace – 11 Weeks to MCM

School in suburban Atlanta started last week on July 31st, something about “July” and “School” in the same sentence is just weird!! This past month we’ve been busy with back to school shopping, getting a new middle schooler ready, trying to align activities and schedules and just trying not to freak out. And throw in a little marathon training in the middle of it all, because, why not! I had no free time to write in my blog either. Until a friend…

Weekly Training Recap – Of Nerds and Bikes

Weekly Training Recap – Of Nerds and Bikes

After the high of my half marathon with The Kyle Pease Foundation last weekend, I was very upset to find that my whole body rebelled and was incredibly sore and tight in every place imaginable.  I took Monday and Tuesday off with just walking and tried to get on the treadmill on Wednesday. After 30 seconds, I stopped in pain. My right adductor/hipflexor was beyond hurting. The weird thing was that I was ok while walking, doing squats and other leg…

Christmas Eve Run aka My “Runniversary” Run

Christmas Eve Run aka My “Runniversary” Run

It is hard to imagine that it was only 7 short years ago that I took my first running steps. 7 years ago, I was nervous about it, I thought I was going to die while running and I hated it when I finished the run. I used to run alone with my eyes firmly on the ground and not looking up to anyone crossing, and I’d be dressed in all cotton T and baggy cotton capris, preferably black or…

16 miles of Trail Running

16 miles of Trail Running

Yesterday was a gorgeous day to run outside. For my long run this week, my goal was to increase time on my feet without necessarily having to increase mileage or speed AND without having to run mind-numbing Z2 run for 4hrs. The trails are the perfect place for that! Kennesaw Mountain, Cheatham Hill and Kolb Farm are some of the main trails around the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park. Although they are all “separate”, the trails are all interconnected to…

Inertia: Weekly Training Recap

Inertia: Weekly Training Recap

While I had put in some solid training the past 2-3 weeks, this week was a struggle. I came back exhilarated from the hike to the Appalachian Approach Trail, but I guess it must’ve worn me out more than I thought. I felt sluggish the whole week, almost as if my body was fighting something but not knowing what. I slept A LOT! Almost 9-10hrs every night and still would feel tired. I was drained of energy.  At first, I…
